The Good Shepherd Pet Indemnity Alliance (GSPIA) is established for breeders, owners, and organizations that care deeply for the welfare and safety of those pets that they breed, take in their homes or property and those organizations who rescue and foster those misplaced animals. These breeders, owners, and organizations want to protect the animals and provide a safety net that will aid these animals should they become displaced for some reason. There are so many problems surrounding pets in our contemporary world. Most of the problems are harmful to the pet itself. GSPIA is a not for profit organization dedicated to adhere to high ethical standards and provide a safety net for our pets that we have placed in our contemporary homes and work situations.
GSPIA will assist rescue groups in two ways. First, it will establish by agreements with each Pet owner when it leaves its breeder for its new home, certain agreement safeguards and pet identification that are in the best interests of the pet. Second, it will assist these organizations and individuals involved in rescue with some minimal financial assistance (Pet Indemnity Fund) should these pets ever become displaced for any reason.
There are two levels of participation by breeders, groups, and
individuals with GSPIA.
1.
Affiliate level-follow link
for more information.
This level is primarily for breeders.
2.
Pet Indemnity
Contributor level-follow link for more information.
This level is for some breeders, organizations/groups, and individuals who
primarily want to provide a financial safety net for those Pets it sells and
handles.
Here is how it works. When a breeder who is a Affiliate of
GSPIA places a pet in a home or working situation, it requires the new owners to
sign an agreement with specific safeguards that include representations and
warranties of benefit to the pet. GSPIA register's each pet in its data
base, microchips it, and deposits money into the Pet Indemnity Fund to be used
for the administration and care of those pets that become displaced for any
reason whatsoever. At present each pet sold by a GSPIA Affiliate is covered
by $400.00 lifetime fund to aid in its handling if it is displaced.
These funds can be used for vaccines, Veterinary care, travel, and boarding.
The amount available for each area is contained in the fee schedule. The
$400.00 lifetime amount is a one time amount. Once the lifetime fund for a
particular pet is exhausted, it is no longer available, but if a pet is re-homed
the indemnity fund fee can be replenished and the $400.00 amount will once again
be available to aid the pet. Only new owners or affiliates of GSPIA can
replenish the fund and not non-affiliated groups or rescue organizations themselves.
Groups and individuals who want to participate at the Pet Indemnity Contributor
level only, will have each pet it handles, places, or sells micro chipped and
registered with GSPIA. They will have each new owner sign a contract
containing standard GSPIA provisions and register the Pet with GSPIA.
