Comté de Foix is arguably the most important kennel in France. Madame Giralt got her first serious stud dog as a result of a year long search by Monsieur Sénac-Lagrange. Madame had grown up with the breed in Foix, France, so she had a several generation family history with the breed. Yucca, the dog eventually located for Madame and Doctor Giralt by Monsieur Sénac-Lagrange, was directly descended from the best of de Soum stock. I will quote from an article Madame wrote for the October, 1977 International Great Pyrenees Review (6), "Yucca, son of Sultan de Vigar and Roland de Soum's grandson, great-grandson of d'Astazou de Soum, came then to live amongst us." To quote further;"He showed us immediately that he was worthy of his ancestors (great champions between 1935 and 1950) by winning the C.A.C.I.B. at Paris in 1944 (sic)."

Thus began a breeding program that continues till this day. Almost all the top dogs in France are either Comté de Foix or have Comté de Foix as a major part of their pedigree. Comté de Foix is representative of the breed type preferred in France.

One of the most beautiful dogs at Comté de Foix was French Champion Micoune du Comté de Foix

Pictured above is Micoune. On the right she is shown in 1964 at the age of just 15 months. Micoune was bred to French Champion Lanoux du Comté de Foix. The result were spectacular dogs that greatly influenced the breed in France.
